Want To Get Fit But Can’t Find The Motivation? Try These 5 Things!

At the start of a new year, every person makes a vow that this will be THE year that they get fit, get healthy and stop all the unhealthy eating they don’t want to admit they do. The question is, how many of them stick to their word?

Unfortunately, not a lot of people. They don’t realise how drastic the sudden change is or how hard staying dedicated to a certain regime is. What sounds easier; to get up, get changed into your awesome gym gear and then go sweat for the next hour OR sitting down munching on that delicious looking donut? I would take the latter.

Many of us start to lack motivation to do so for several reasons. Not seeing the change in your body, wondering if it’s all worth it or you’re having a typically hard day and don’t want to move. That is 100% normal! We all have days like that and getting through them or pushing yourself is what you need to learn over time.

So how do you accomplish staying motivated to work for that healthy body you desire? Try out these 5 ways to keep yourself motivated through your journey!

1. Set a realistic goal for yourself!

There’s nothing more upsetting than working so hard and pushing your body through the pain only to see at the end of the month – you haven’t lost that 10 kilos! Don’t let that discourage you.

You need to include clear milestones and make sure that they are not taxing on your physical or mental health, otherwise you may be setting yourself up for  failure.

Your goal doesn’t have to be huge, it needs to make you happy with your progress.

2. Find a workout partner!

Are you scared you may look weird being the only person out there sweating and jogging? Don’t worry, you’re not the only one! A workout partner benefits you in many ways including being there to keep you company on your journey, spot you that 10 extra kilos on the bench press or make that boring jog enjoyable.

There’s nothing that makes you feel better knowing someone else will be there sharing your adventure while continuously pushing through it with you.

According to a recent study published in the journey Obesity, having that partner with you makes you more competitive and can help you lose up to 20 percent more weight than you would if you worked out alone.

3. Stop comparing yourself to other people!

One thing you need to remember is that you are unique from everyone else! Your body is yours alone and everyone has a different definition of healthy. That Instagram model you follow with the gorgeous hourglass? She has worked 4 years straight on her body and follows an unbelievable diet, but will she tell you that? No.

Having that perfect image in your head may actually discourage you from losing weight rather than push you towards it. Instead of staring at other individual’s body or progress, keep yourself inspired by looking at pictures of your own body when you’ve looked the healthiest you have ever been.

4. Focus on how working out makes you feel rather than how you look!

More often than not we become obsessed with that little number on the scale which fuels frustration when we don’t see what we want which is one of the biggest ways to punch that motivation out the window!

I want you to stop and think about how you felt after you did those 5 more squats today, or when you ate that awesome salad for lunch. Your motivation doesn’t always have to come before an activity. Once you start to focus on how you feel accomplished every time, you’ll reimburse that feeling which will definitely increase your motivation.

5. Make sure to always have those cheat days!

I know, what am I thinking? Cheat days are the one thing most people dread because they feel like all their progress will fly out of the window.

You can’t tell a person who has been smoking cigarettes for 20 years to suddenly stop and not touch another one again and you can’t expect yourself to do the same with unhealthy food.

Looking forward to that one Saturday night where you won’t have to skip dessert can push you to work harder and will make you realise how far you have come.
