Tips on Post Workout Nutrition!

The type of food that you choose to eat after the gym can help or hurt your effort to build muscle.  This is probably the most critical stage in maximizing muscle growth, as it is the time when your muscles are being repaired and in need of nutrients. 

After an intense workout, liquid meals are ideal because they are easily digested.  After exercise, glycogen stores are low, and nutrients are needed as quickly as possible, or else your muscles will start breaking down itself.  Therefore, you need to have your post workout snack as quickly as possible.  Since liquid meals are digested at a faster rate than solid foods, nutrients will be available to your muscles at a faster rate.

Carbohydrates and protein are the best post workout foods.   It is not just sufficient to have your post workout snack immediately after your workout, but it must be digested quickly so that it can reach your muscles as soon as possible.  Fats will slow down the digestion process so it is best to avoid it.

When all is said and done, post workout nutrition is all about speed.  Your muscles are desperately in need of nutrients and the sooner they have something to work with the better.
