Builds Muscle Mass.

This is an obvious one.  Increasing muscle mass can do amazing things, such as increase our strength, make our body healthier and improve our self-esteem.

Slows Down Sarcopenia.

Sarcopenia is the process of gradual and eventual permanent muscle loss caused by the ageing process. Working out and weight training is the best way to fight Sarcopenia.

Increases Metabolism.

A body that has a lot of muscle will burn more fat, even at rest.  It is possible to burn 1,500 or more calories a day by increasing your lean muscle mass.

Helps to Fight Diabetes.

Specifically, it helps to fight type 2 diabetes.  Diabetes is one of the main causes of the obesity epidemic we are currently seeing in many countries.  People have been known to lose limbs because of this disease.  Weightlifting can help to combat this.  Weightlifting can also help your glucose metabolism.  This is another key way to prevent diabetes.

Fights Lower Back Pain.

Lifting weights will strengthen your lower back muscles.  You do not even need to do any specific lower back exercises.  The act of lifting weights will make your back stronger.  Your back is connected to almost every move you make, so the act of lifting weights will make use of the lower back to assist and stabilize you in lifting.

Lowers Blood Pressure and Heart Rate.

Two common side effects experienced by bodybuilders are lower blood pressure and a lower average resting heart rate.  Both of these mean that you are healthier overall.

Helps You to Metabolize Food.

Weightlifting has been proven to increase gastrointestinal transit time.  This can help you to lower your risk of colon cancer and various other diseases that are part of the gastrointestinal tract.

Increases Your Flexibility.

People who lift weights on a regular basis have a high amount of flexibility.  This is heightened for several hours immediately following your workout.

Helps With Cholesterol Management.

Bodybuilding has been proven to lower your bad cholesterol (the LDL’s) and raise your good cholesterol (the HDL’s).

Healthier Bones.

Weightlifting has a tendency to thicken and strengthen your bones.  This can help to prevent certain cases of Osteoporosis.

Strengthens Your Immune System.

Bodybuilding can boost your natural immune system.  This will decrease your chances of catching the common cold, the flu or many other diseases.

Helps You to Sleep Better.

This should go without saying, but a person will sleep soundly after a rigorous session of weightlifting.  As any fitness expert will tell you, sleep is the key to good health.  You can work out and eat right, but if you are not getting enough sleep you will experience health problems.  Bodybuilding is one of the keys to maintaining a healthy body condition, however, if you’re willing to take your health to the next level you could start by drinking protein powder to achieve effective results and maximize muscle growth.
