Dirty gears, helmets, balls, gloves, sticks and other accessories look very nasty and smell horrible.  As with everything else, they need to be cleaned every now and then.  If you spend lots of time practicing a sport, having clean sports equipment is essential.  Even if you exercise once in a while you need to know how to give a proper cleansing to your sport accessories if you use any and learn how to store them well.  It is important to maintain sport accessories just like any other tool.  Here we will show you how to take care of some of the items used for sport.

Generally speaking, most of the accessories can be cleaned very fast and easily.  The products and materials you need are a few rags and cloths, anti-bacterial wipes, toothbrush, mild detergent, towel, etc.

Cleaning soccer balls

Use some water, mild detergent or soap and a toothbrush.  Wet the toothbrush and apply a dab of detergent on it.  Wet the soccer ball.  Start scrubbing with the brush.  Once you go over the entire surface, rinse well with water.  Dry the ball with a towel or set aside.

Soccer balls are a constant trap for germs and grime as they are passed between players and kicked all the time.  Especially if you play outside, this item can accumulate a lot of dirt and dust.  The latter is inhaled when playing with the ball and this poses some risks to your health.  For this reason, it is necessary to give soccer balls and any other sport balls a good clean.

Cleaning ice hockey gear

For pieces you can’t soak in water

Hockey gears may be very smelly.  In order to make them odor-free and clean you need a spray bottle, water, laundry detergent and soft cloths.  Fill the spray bottle with water and add a dab of mild detergent.  Use the soapy solution to clean the gear.  Spray over the item and let it rest for a while.  Wipe with a clean cloth.  Rinse well with water to remove the soapy residue.  Spray with clean water and blot with a cloth again.  Repeat as many times as necessary until all the soap is gone.

For pieces you can soak in water

You need baking soda or vinegar (they remove bad odors), water, laundry detergent.  Fill a tub with water and add laundry detergent.  Mix well.  For better results you can also add some baking soda or vinegar.  Keep in mind that vinegar rinses off more easily.  Put all the parts of the gear that can be washed into the tub.  Let the pieces soak in the water for a couple of hours.  When sufficient time has passed, take out the pieces.  Rinse well using clean water.  Lay each piece on a towel to dry.  You can also use a fan to dry the pieces.

In addition, placing the pieces in the washing machine is much faster and efficient, provided that the items can be washed this way.

Washing football gloves

Gloves can be machine washed depending on their material.  For hand washing football gloves you need mild detergent and warm water.  Fill the sink with warm water and add a small amount of liquid soap or detergent.  Soak the gloves inside.  Rub or gently scrub the areas that need cleaning.  Next, turn them inside out and proceed to wash the insides as well.  When you are done, make sure you rinse well with water.  Squeeze to remove the excess water.  Hang to dry or place them on a towel.  Use the gloves when they are completely dry.
